Forest　Hill is the name of my　Elementary and Junior
　　　　High School in my hometown of Toronto, Canada.

　　　　Toronto is a city of immigrants. About 30--50% of my
　　　　friends in school were children whose parents came from
　　　　foreign countries. At home, many of these children spoke
　　　　a language other than English. (Korean, Chinese, Spanish,
　　　　Italian, French, Greek, Russian, among many others.)

　　　But at school, EVERYBODY spoke English. From an early age
　　　I learned an important lesson: anyone can speak English.
　　　And this is the attitude I try to bring to Forest Hill, Omachi.

　　　　　　故郷はカナダのトロントです。フォレスト・ヒルは私が通っていた小学校と

　　　　　中学校の名前でした。トロントは移民の多い都市です。同級生の中で

　　　　　　　３割～５割は母国語が英語ではありませんでした。

　　　　　　　　　　彼らの両親が移民だったからです。

　　　　彼らは、家庭において中国語、韓国語、スペイン語、イタリア語、フランス語、

　　　　　　　　　ギリシア語、ロシア語などを話しました。

　　　　　　　ですが、学校では皆、英語しか話しませんでした。

　　　　　このような体験を通して、私は若いときから大切な事を覚えました。

　　　　　　それは　．．．英語を話せない人はいないという事です。

　　　　　　　このように、誰でも英語を話せるようになれるのだ

　．．．という姿勢を、大町のフォレスト・ヒルで皆さんにお与えしたいと思います
